Daytona Beach Bandshell tribute concerts salute Heart, Pat Benatar and Billy Joel, among Volusia County weekend entertainment events that include New Smyrna Beach Wine Walk.
There are plenty of entertainment options this weekend to weather the dog days, from turn-back-the-clock musical tributes to splashy amusements, classical concerts and an ever-popular favorite, wine.
Women who rock
Ladies don’t always get their due in rock ‘n’ roll, but the spotlight will be on the fairer sex in the twin-bill at Friday’s tribute-band concert at Daytona Beach Bandshell, on the Boardwalk just north of the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort.
First, it’s the soaring harmonies and rock guitar muscle of Heart, the enduring sister duo of Ann and Nancy Wilson, as channeled by tribute act Love Alive. Expect faithful reproductions of such throwback hits as “Crazy On You,” “Magic Man,” “These Dreams” and “Barracuda.”
Also on the bill: Tribute band Fire and Ice will present its take on the music of Pat Benatar, transporting fans back to the MTV-fueled 1980s with “Heartbreaker,” “Love is a Battlefield,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” and other favorites.
The show starts at 7:15 p.m. and admission is free.
Piano Man salute
Turnstiles, touted as “the ultimate Billy Joel tribute show,” will tackle the formidable catalog of the singer, songwriter and piano pounder on Saturday at Daytona Beach Bandshell.
Led by frontman Tony Monaco, a longtime Joel disciple, the band loads its set with signature songs including “Only the Good Die Young,” “Piano Man,” “New York State of Mind,” “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me,” “Allentown,” “Uptown Girl,” You May Be Right” and the Baby Boomer pop-culture rollcall of “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”
The music starts at 7:15 p.m., with fireworks to follow at 9:45. Free admission.
“Pool Daze” at Daytona Lagoon
It’s hot out there. Have you noticed?
So it’s a great time for the “Pool Daze” promotion at Daytona Lagoon, the waterpark and family entertainment center at 601 Earl St., just north of the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.
During “Pool Daze,” admission to Daytona Lagoon’s waterpark is just $15.99, a 40 percent discount off normal prices. The deal is only available on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays through the August. It includes access to the Treasure Lagoon Wave Pool and the Castaway activity play area from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. The event offers guests the opportunity to check out the park’s two-brand new slides — Kraken’s Revenge and Shaka Halfpipe.
